Fin Solver:Design of Extended Heat Transfer Surfaces

This interactive session will allow you to design an extended heat transfer surface.
The governing equations that are solved are:

Governing Equations

Further details on the derivation of the fin design equations can be found at this link

Use the input form below to specify the design parameters for the fin.
(Use SI units)

Fin Parameters
T0 (K) Ta (K) k (W/mK) h (W/m2K) L (m)

Select a fin geometry:

Select a boundary condition at x=L:

Select a profile y(x,L) for your fin.

Please note that for straight and spine fins the base has thickness 2*y(0,L).
For annular fins the base has thickness 2*y(R1,L), where R1 is the inner radius.

If you specified a straight fin design, you must also specify the fin width W.If you specify an
annular fin design, you need to specify the inner radius R1. The outer radius R2 is then R2=L-R1
W= R1=
